How to choose a new office
If you’re planning to relocate your workplace, or to set up a new office or branch, it’s vital to choose carefully. A new office is a huge investment in the future of your company, and while there’s nothing quite like seeing your name on the door above your new premises, it’s important to choose those premises carefully.
Here are some tips for choosing a new office space:
- be clear about what your office is for – whether you want it as a space to meet clients, to increase your staffing levels or to signify that you have ‘arrived’, consider which options will achieve that goal. For example, you could look at a leased office, a serviced office or a work hub.
- location, location, location – think about accessibility, both for clients and future employees. Is it close to transport links? Are there places nearby where you can entertain clients? Does it offer parking?
- security – it’s important that your employees feel safe in their workplace, particularly if they’re likely to be coming and going at night. Check whether your proposed new premises offers facilities like secure entry, bicycle storage and lockers.
- think ahead – when you’re thinking about how long you’re prepared to commit to a lease for, consider your short-term and long-term plans for your company. Will this space be right for your business in five years’ time? And don’t be afraid to negotiate – even if you do believe that it’s a landlord’s market.
